A 12-piece string ensemble known for their ground-breaking collaborations, we were heavily involved in communicating SE’s first projects of this kind. We created films, photography and a project microsite for them during this period, as well as supplying other assets to promote their programme of concerts and tours.
Our musical expertise and bank of equipment meant Maker was also able to record and mix all the music tracks that were needed for the films.
Through the Scottish Ensemble, we entered a world of classical music film-making. Our first contact with them, however, was over recording the string parts for I’Anson’s debut album, In Chances of Light. We remain big fans and firm friends.
Here are a few films from the back catalogue.
Anno // Film, posters, and design elements for a project based on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, with leading young composer Anna Meredith and illustrator Eleanor Meredith, 2020.
Tabula Rasa // Music by Arvo Pärt. The Ensemble’s 2018 co-production with Vanishing Point Theatre Company. We produced a full length, 90 min, multi-camera version of this profound play about palliative care for publication on BBC Arts , alongside 1 min and 3 min trailers, and photography.
Goldberg // A suite of photography, bespoke website, and mini-documentary, supporting the first collaboration between the Scottish Ensemble (UK) and Andersson Dance (Sweden), based on the music of JS Bach. The production was revived for a London season and toured internationally over the next 7 years.
20th Century Perspectives // Modernist music meets Glasgow’s brutalist architecture in this film promoting the collaboration between Scottish Ensemble and artist Toby Paterson, from 2014.
Go Further // Artistic Director Jonathan Moreton and fellow performers reflect on the nature of concerts. From behind the scenes at the Wigmore Hall, London.
